The Most Dangerous Place for a Founder: “We’re Still Raising

Imagine you are a founder with six months of runway.

You have built the product. You have early traction. You know additional capital could change the future of your company.

You expect fundraising to take six weeks.

Then six weeks become three months.

Three months become six.

Your product roadmap slows. Your attention is divided. Your runway continues to shrink.

When someone asks how the round is going, you give the answer too many founders know:

“We’re still raising.”

Meanwhile, an investor whose thesis, timing, and interests align with your company may not even know you exist.

The opportunity is there.

The connection may be there.

But the path between you is hidden.

Fundraising Takes Longer Than Founders Expect

The numbers reveal how quickly the fundraising window can become dangerous.

A pre-seed round may move from its first commitment to money in the bank in a median of 21 days, according to 2025–26 AngelList and Carta figures.

But that measures what happens after the first commitment—not all the weeks or months required to reach it.

At seed, the complete process commonly takes 12 to 16 weeks.

Many founders plan for six weeks and find themselves raising for six months. Without adequate preparation, the process can stretch to eight or nine months—and may never close.

Series A presents an even harder transition.

The median interval from seed to Series A is approximately 616 days, or 20 months. Only 15.4% of companies in the cited 2022 seed cohort raised a Series A within two years.

Those are not merely statistics.

They represent months founders are not spending entirely on customers, products, teams, and growth.

They represent companies with good ideas slowly running out of time.

Every Wrong Conversation Costs You Runway

Return to our founder.

Every week, she builds another investor list.

She sends cold emails, asks friends for introductions, and repeats her story to people who may never have been a strong match.

Reported cold-outreach conversion is below 3%. Warm introductions, by comparison, convert at approximately 15% to 20%.

Founders who already have warm investor networks reportedly close 40% faster. Those who secure a lead investor during the first four weeks close 2.4 times faster.

This does not mean relationships should become transactional.

It means finding the right relationship early can preserve something a founder can never recover:

Time.

Better Matches, Not More Messages

This is the problem we are working to address at ConnectLab.live.

We are building a network-intelligent matching engine designed to connect founders with angels, venture capital firms, and funds using real signals, real traction, and real alignment.

For founders, the benefit is focus.

Instead of treating every investor as an equally likely prospect, you can concentrate on capital partners whose interests and direction align with your company.

For investors, the benefit is relevance.

Instead of sorting through endless, poorly matched pitches, you have a better opportunity to discover founders who fit what you are actually trying to fund.

For connectors, the benefit is clarity.

You can recognize where one thoughtful introduction could create meaningful value for both sides.

Better data reveals the fit.

Better context explains it.

Better timing gives the relationship a chance to develop before runway becomes the deciding factor.

Technology Is Not the Hero of This Story

I have spent much of my life thinking about how people create impact.

Again and again, I have seen that meaningful change rarely happens alone.

It happens when the right people combine their ideas, resources, experience, and courage.

There is an art to understanding people—their stories, ambitions, and potential.

There is a science to recognizing the signals and patterns that suggest two people may be meaningfully aligned.

Technology allows us to bring that art and science together at a scale that was not possible before.

But technology is not the hero of this story.

You are.

Technology should not replace trust, judgment, or human conversation. It should help you find the conversations that deserve your limited time.

The Right Conversation at the Right Moment

No matching system can guarantee that an investor will say yes.

But it can help founders avoid spending precious months pursuing investors who were never aligned.

It can help investors discover opportunities beyond their usual circles.

It can help both sides begin with better context, greater relevance, and a stronger reason to talk.

Sometimes that conversation leads to capital.

Sometimes it leads to advice, a partnership, or another introduction.

Sometimes it gives an important company the time and resources it needs to survive.

That company may create jobs.

Its product may improve people’s lives.

Its impact may reach thousands—or even millions—of people.

That is why connecting people matters so deeply to me.

You make a difference whether you want to or not. The question is whether we can make that difference more intentional.

At ConnectLab.live, we are working toward a world where fewer valuable relationships remain hidden—and where founders have a better chance of reaching the right capital partners before time runs out.
