It looks like Meta will be joining the hordes of companies taking a look at NFTs.
According to the Financial Times, Meta is working on plans to allow users to create and sell non-fungible tokens including a feature that will allow users to display their NFTs on their social media profiles, as well as working on a prototype to help users create — or mint — the collectible tokens.
Also in the discussions are possibilities of launching a marketplace for users to buy and sell NFTs which has become a global market worth $40bn.
At the same time, this freewheeling sector is the wild, wild west and we are looking at a speculative bubble plagued by scams and market manipulation.
My prediction?
Regardless of the morals involved, money will be made and lost in mind-blowing volumes in this space.
What all of this means for independent filmmakers is yet to be seen, but certainly, “the times, they are a changin.”
Stay tuned!
