A half dozen people went right by this!
It was a beautiful hike in Pine Grove Furnace State Park.
About an hour and a half up the Appalachian Trail, there was a prominent pile of rocks leading to an impressive overlook of the lake below and the valley beyond.
In fact, I’m not sure I would have noticed myself if it wasn’t for the couple with two small children who alerted us to watch out for it.
As I took this picture, I couldn’t even see it in the shadows.
But, it was about 6 feet long and filled with venom.
This one, I let be …
I told each of the half dozen people who climbed up the rocks to be careful, but most of them never could find it.
What are you missing in the rocks?
Some things are so obvious when you know what you are looking for — and you remember to look.
The basics are always there, but it helps to have other people pointing things out as you climb the hill.
I’d love to help you navigate.

Noticed it right away, but then I have a small dog who has been trained to watch for rattlesnakes, and I’m her backup. Wish I could be in SD, but all our momentum and road trips are focused on my son’s wedding in mid-October.
