Seth Godin says, “All you need to make a living is for four thousand to adore you. And you need forty thousand to be a hit. That’s forty thousand out of four billion! Those are really good odds!”
Five Easy Steps …
1. Spend More Time Finding, Less Time Convincing!
Spend less time trying to sell people who don’t care about you and more time trying to find four thousand people who will adore you.
At the risk of sounding a bit self-centered and callous, instead of trying to convince people to like you, why not just go looking for the people who will naturally like you.
2. Accept the Fact – Most people won’t like you for this!
- Don’t try to fit in.
- Stand for something.
- Be the person you are.
- Don’t try to sneak by.
TRUE: Most people in the world aren’t adored by most people in the world, so get over it and be adored by the people who will love to adore you.
3. Be LOUD about who you are, the value you bring and what you believe to be true.
Now is not the time to hide in the corner, because people WILL pass you by without noticing. Now is the time to put it all out there warts and all and just be the very best YOU that you can be.
4. LISTEN to what people who adore you are saying.
Your new fans will tell you exactly what they adore about you. Listen to them and you can understand the real value that you bring to them and even more importantly who THEY are and what THEY want.
5. SEARCH for groups of people who share those desires.
People who share the values, desires and attitudes of your fans, will naturally adore YOU. All you need to do is FIND them.
DON’T WORRY! They aren’t hard to find. They are clumped around people that you like, admire and adore. Connect with them, because they will adore you too!

Hi Ken,
That makes complete sense to me!
It’s similar to considering yourself as a product… be the best you can and market yourself ethically and proudly as someone who adds value to your niche. Even then, not everyone will like you, but most of your customers will appreciate you. 🙂
Hey Neil,
Thanks for the comments! Right on the mark! We should touch base again and see what we can do together!
All the best,
Ken
Thanks Ken! I really needed this today 🙂
In a world where much seems to revolve around conformity, following the herd – I say, dare to be different!
If you simply follow the herd non-stop, you’ll never stand out as being unique and creative in your own unique way.
Remember, when you were born, you were born to be a creative genius. Just the very fact you are alive, just the very fact that you are this incredible individual, the odds of you not being here in this universe, those odds are staggering.
In this ‘short’ period of time between your birth and the time you pass on, you have this amazing opportunity to enjoy the amazing privilege of life.
Be yourself. Take risks with your time. Only one who risks is free to be.
Dare to be different, dare to stand up for what you truly believe in, commit random acts of kindness towards others, share your unique voice with the world.
Sure, not everyone will love you for who you are but at least you will know through being completely honest and true to yourself that you gave your life your best shot!
None of us are going to be around forever and the world around us? It’s filled to the brim with amazing opportunities to connect with other people of a similar disposition to yourself.
Put yourself out there, stand firm in your convictions, grab life by the horns and who knows? The world may just become your oyster!
Warmest regards,
Mark Andrews
Ken, great post! Mark, where did you get the idea that the odds against your being born were high? Lottery thinking, as I like to call it, is based on assumption.
